This year’s Haig Brown lecture is presented by Eiko Jones, an award winning photographer and filmmaker. He will talk about his years in Campbell River photographing and filming the majestic salmon that return to the river each year. While watching and filming salmon he has developed a keen understanding of the relationship between healthy salmon runs and the vibrance of the entire watershed. The connection between the salmon and hundreds of other species that live in or near the river is highlighted in his newly completed film called Heartbeat of the River. This up close and personal film takes the viewer into the realm of the salmon like no other, and gives a sense of the struggle, and victory, of the epic journey they face to complete their life’s mission. This event will be the first time the film is shown in Canada and there will be a chance for questions afterward.
