September 2 – Firing up the Steam Donkey.
Labour Day was originally marked as a day for workers to campaign for better working conditions or pay. On September 2, we will honour some of our labour history in a fun and family-friendly way by bringing to steam the restored 1916 Empire Steam Donkey at the Museum at Campbell River.
Pack a lunch and unwind on our beautiful grounds while listening to the nostalgic sounds of the past—feel the chug of the engine and hear the whistle signals that echoed through the woods from the 1900s to the 1940s.
Let’s come together to appreciate the hard work that shaped our community. Mark your calendars and bring the family for a day of history, fun, and connection!
Activities Include:
- Donkey boiler coffee & pie
- Whistle Signal Demonstration
- Photos with the Hayes-Anderson Logging Truck
- Historical footage of steam donkeys in action
- Self-guided native plant tour
